One of the two mosques in Taipei City. It is named “Taipei Cultural Mosque (臺北小寺).” The Taipei Culture Mosque was the result of internal conflicts at the Taipei Mosque. The Taipei Culture Mosque’s founder, ulama Xiao Yongtai (蕭永泰), was from northeast China. He was dispatched to the Taipei Mosque to serve as the imam. Later, he went to Saudi Arabia to raise funds to construct another mosque owing to his conflict with others at the Taipei Mosque over their religious views. He preferred to promote Islamic religion through a cultural movement and established the “Chinese Islamic Youth Association” (中國回教青年會) to foster and lead young Muslims in Taiwan.

In 1950, the Taipei Taipei Culture Mosque was initially located in Ulama Xiao’s Japanese style house on the Roosevelt Road. Later, it was moved to a new building near the old location because the old building was torn down in a road widening scheme. Ulama Xiao appointed himself imam and took charge of everything. By 1971, the new building had deteriorated and was in need of repair, so restoration work commenced on the entire structure. Later , Ulama Xiao donated the building to the Taipei Culture Mosque, a legal personality, and raised funds. In 1982, the building was reconstructed as a five-storey mosque. It looks like a standard apartment building, except for its minarets.

Ulama Xiao Yongtai passed away in 1990 and his son Xiao Weijun (蕭偉君) assumed his position as the imam. Later, the building again deteriorated and the necessary repair work was funded by the Indonesia Economic and Trade Office to Taipei. After the new repairs, the building became the hub for religious and cultural activities for Indonesian Muslims in Taiwan. The building also now provides a place for Muslim travelers to stay. It offers rooms for foreign Muslim missionaries for temporary stays, like the traditional fundugs (行館) in Islamic countries.
